2017 Diocesan Annual Appeal Walk Together in the Light of Christ

Next weekend is The Annual Appeal Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Peter’s Cathedral.

You are invited to attend an “Annual Appeal Mass of Thanksgiving” to be held at St Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, on Sunday, November 26, at 10:00 AM. The Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera and followed by a reception in the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 330 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton. Your intention as you expressed on pledge envelopes during In-Pew Weekend will be remembered at this Mass. This Mass also marks the Liturgical Solemnity of Christ the King and the conclusion of the Extraordinary Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis.

“Since our earliest days we have been taught how to pray by the words that Jesus himself shared with us in the scriptures. He began that prayer by saying, ‘Our Father.’ We walk together as brothers and sisters in the light of Christ by the very nature of our faith. In his great instruction to us, Evangelii Gaudum (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis invites us all to missionary discipleship as authentic followers of the Lord Jesus. Missionary discipleship calls us to go out of ourselves and to preach the Gospel and to respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters with whom we walk.” - Bishop Joseph C. Bambera

Our Holy Father tells us, “God’s heart has a special place for the poor, so much so that he himself ‘became poor.’” He explains that the proclamation of the Gospel “is itself the prime form of charity.” You are invited to join with parishioners across the Diocese as they “Walk Together in the Light of Christ” proclaiming the Gospel by supporting the many ministries and services made possible through gifts to the 2017 Annual Appeal throughout the 11 counties of our Diocese.

CATHOLIC MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS:

“Giving everyone the opportunity to read, see and hear the Good News.”

Spreading the Gospel and the message of our Catholic faith is the vital mission of the Catholic Media and Communications Office of the Diocese of Scranton. This is why we provide a wide-ranging media program that offers print, online and broadcasting services throughout our 11-county Diocese. The message is delivered through The Catholic Light, the official newspaper of the Diocese which is delivered to 46,000 households; Catholic Television (CTV), the Diocesan television station; and the Diocesan website. CTV reaches more than 235,000 homes, hospitals and nursing facilities broadcasting the daily Mass and many other faith-based programs. The Diocesan website is an excellent online resource for information about life and events in the Diocese, including videos of the daily Mass and the special liturgies celebrated at St. Peter’s Cathedral and Bishop Bambera’s homilies.
