MASS FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE --- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 6:30 PM, BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH

The Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Scranton, the Roman Catholic Church in the United States as well as the universal church, continue to respond to Pope Francis’ call to pray for, help heal and proactively protect children from the terrible sin of sexual abuse. For whenever we have failed to protect our children, we beg God’s forgiveness. For whenever we have failed to support victims of sexual abuse, we beg for their forgiveness. We have learned from the pain of such moments to motivate a rigorous prevention program.

We invite and encourage all who are able to join us in prayer for healing and forgiveness, seeking the strength needed from the Eucharist to chart a path forward, renewing our commitment and ensuring that we remain vigilant against the scourge of abuse.

HOLY HOUR FOR LIFE - DATE CHANGE

Thursday, October 22, 6:30 PM, Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Every Life. Cherished. Chosen. Sent

God creates every person for eternal union with Himself and continually invites us to embrace a loving relationship with Him. Each person is cherished, chosen and sent into the world. We are all sent into the larger community, called to be messengers of God’s love, treating one another as cherished and chosen by Him. In doing so, we help build a culture that respects all human life. The church has consistently taught that every human life is precious and worthy of protection. Every intentional abortion is gravely wrong. In 2018, Pope Francis wrote: “Our defense of the innocent unborn…needs to be clear, firm and passionate, for at stake is the dignity of a human life, which is always sacred and demands love for each person, regardless of his or her stage of development.”

BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH HISTORY PROJECT

In April of 2020 an historical anniversary will occur. Blessed Sacrament Parish can trace its roots back to April 13, 1895, when the first Roman Catholics in the town of Throop officially organized. There is hope that the 125th Anniversary in April of 2020 can be celebrated by putting together a Coffee-Table Style Photo Book of the four former Parishes of Throop, and of Blessed Sacrament Parish (which was formed in December 2009). This project is in the preliminary stages. There will be a meeting in the Spring to gauge Parish interest. The Holy Name of Blessed Sacrament has graciously decided to support this undertaking. More information in the Spring!

BLESSED SACRAMENT STITCHERS

The Blessed Sacrament Stitchers meet the second Friday of each month at 10:00 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Parish rectory. In order to create and deliver soft and cuddly booties and hats for the newly baptized infants of Blessed Sacrament and Holy Cross Parishes the stitchers are seeking donations of the following items:

  • White soft baby knitting yarn
  • Small paper gift bags in pink, blue or white (approximately 5x7)
  • Pink and blue tissue paper and ribbon

Donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the Parish rectory. New members are always welcome!

APPRECIATION TO STITCHERS CLUB

Many thanks to Janet and Mary Ann Popovich and the women of the Stitchers Club of Blessed Sacrament who graciously knitted many pairs of booties to distributed at baptisms at Holy Cross and Blessed Sacrament. The booties serve as a wonderful symbol that these children have been incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church. And together, with family, friends, and parishioners, we walk in the Light of Christ – striving to be faithful disciples of the Lord
