A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS MORNING - (Henry VanDyke)

“The day of joy returns, Father in Heaven, and crowns another year with peace and goodwill. Help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the Angels, The gladness of the Shepherds and the Worship of the Wise Men.

Close the doors of hate and open the doors of love all over the world. Let Kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil, by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be your children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our bed with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

The joyful message of Bethlehem is proclaimed yet again. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those whom he favors” (Luke 2:14). Like the shepherds who first went with haste to the stable, we stop and see, with great humility we place our lives before the sign God gives us: “A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12). In holy silence, we fall on our knees – O Come let us adore Him! Then – and then we get up to carry the Good News we have received into the world. What is this Good News for you this Christmas? What does this child, born for us of the Virgin Mary, have to tell you – to tell all of us? This is a message about Family – the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and about our family of faith: God is a loving Father and we are all brothers and sisters. This Christmas message of family is a truth that is the basis of our Christmas vision of humanity.

My Christmas prayer for our beloved Parishes of Blessed Sacrament and Holy Cross is a wish for and about FAMILY. Family – loving, caring families in each and every home and individuals and in our neighborhoods and among peoples of every nation and every culture. Family, Holy Family, among women and men and children with different ideas, yet capable of respecting and listening to each other. Jesus came to reveal the face of God to all those who seek Him. The face of God has been revealed to us in a human face, in Jesus, our Savior and Messiah. In this wonderful, glorious encounter, the Mystery of the Incarnation, we experience Salvation coming to us through love, acceptance, respect for all of God’s children, our family. The wonderful mosaic, beautiful and rich in our uniqueness and differences, bound together as one through the Baby in a Manger – May the little Child we celebrate at Christmas watch over all the children of the world. May all of us receive peace, comfort and strength in the birth of our Savior and, before the great grandeur of God’s love, our loving Father who gives us Jesus, realize once again, with a new enthusiasm and profound gratitude, that we are all brothers and sisters in this most wonderful and amazing family.

Christmas peace…..

United in His Service,
Monsignor Michael J. Delaney
