Three Roman Catholic parishes will present two special services during the upcoming Advent season. An Advent service of word and song, will be presented on Sunday, December 10, 6:00 PM, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Dunmore, with Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera residing. The second is set for Thursday, December 14 at Holy Family Parish Church, Luzerne, beginning at 7:00 PM with Most Reverend James C. Timlin presiding.

The music for the service features the combined choir from Holy Family Parish, Luzerne; Saints Anthony & Rocco Parish, Dunmore; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore, as well as several soloists and instrumental ensemble.

The Northeast Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, Inc. (NEPGS) has many available resources which can aid in your genealogical quest. From books, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, city records, church records, cemetery records and family histories, we have a wide range of material on various topics related to genealogy and local history. NEPGS in partnership with the Diocese of Scranton is digitizing parish records in eleven northeastern Pennsylvania counties. The project which began in May 2016, reached a milestone in October 2017 with the 250th church/parish completed!

will present the 16th Generations Sing Concert on Sunday evening, November 12 at 7:30 PM at St. Peter’s Cathedral. As in the past years, this year’s celebration concert strives to celebrate both ecumenical diversity and multigenerational singers. Since the first presentation, the CCS has hosted singing groups of all ages from public and private schools throughout Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, presenting four or five different age groups at each concert.

The Parishes of Holy Cross & Blessed Sacrament will hold a special Mass remembering those parishioners who died this past year (from October 2016 thru October 2017). Mass will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 4:00 PM at Holy Cross Parish and on Saturday, November 11 at 5:30 PM at Blessed Sacrament Parish. All parishioners are invited to attend these Masses and support those who have lost a family member this year. A small reception will be held immediately after each Mass. Everyone is invited.

Marywood University Aphasia Group is a free community service support group that is made up of people living with stroke at any stage of their recovery, in addition to family members and caregivers. Our aphasia group encourages individuals affected by stroke to come together in a warm and accepting environment.
